Collection of the Week: Bottega Veneta Resort 2013

Finally, I have returned. I have been so busy the past couple weeks, I’m even surprised that I found time today to post this collection of the week. It’s good to be back.

The resort collections are well underway. With summer inching closer, everybody seems to be shedding the layers and opting for brighter colors. Tomas Maier at Bottega Veneta, however, had softer colors (and silhouettes) on his mind for his resort presentation for the house.

Most of the looks were one tone from head to toe, including splashes of peach, mint green, and beige. He certainly didn’t go bland, though. All the looks were appropriate for work attire, but separately the could work for the weekend or even a night out. Accessories were definitely on display with otherwise simple backdrops, including prim clutches and girly pumps.

Florals played their lovely part in some of the looks, as did bead work. Shows that craftsmanship was not omitted in between fall and spring.

Here are some of my favorite looks:

See you next time! Hopefully there won’t be as big of a hiatus.

Model of the Week: Charlotte Free

Not many people can pull off pink hair. Pink, the artist, pretty much set the trend with her punk/pop rock vibe and different iterations of it. Hayley Williams has sported it successfully (see: “Playing God” music video). And no one else really comes to mind.

Charlotte Free, however, has recently established herself in the modeling world as the pink-haired, innocent-faced black horse. She walks. She poses. She’s fierce. But no one has seriously taken notice until now.

Today, Maybelline named Ms. Free as their new face, and I have to say, she is the perfect canvas for one of the biggest make-up franchises in the world.

The thing that makes her stand apart from the rest of the models — apart from her hair — is that she appeals to any market. She is featured in Forever 21’s most recent campaign. She struts down high fashion runways with the big shots. She poses for alternative fashion magazines. In other words, she’s a chameleon, but she stays true to herself and her style no matter what is thrown at her.

Here is a shot from a photo shoot in Numero Tokyo:

Here is one of her looks on the Limi Feu SS 2012 runway:

I can’t wait to see her ads for Maybelline. I think she will now be considered one among the Kate Mosses and Lara Stones of the modeling world.

Collection of the Week: Marc by Marc Jacobs SS 2012

Today feels like summer. It’s about 80 degrees outside, and the smell of fresh cut grass looms in the air. I feel like I can breathe again. Unfortunately, I wore my Pixie pants and a long sleeve shirt today, and all I can think about is going home and putting shorts on.

In the mean time, though, I will just be nostalgic and feature a fresh and colorful spring collection by Mr. Marc Jacobs.

For his secondary line for spring, Jacobs went a little more minimalist, but utilized colors that were totally appropriate for the season, which added to the youthfulness that Marc by Marc has been known for. With vintage silhouettes (late ’50s swimsuits, high-waisted jumpsuits, you get the picture), Jacobs modernized looks from the past and made them totally wearable for today. A neon pop here, a graphic floral print there — this collection makes me want to style my hair into a beehive, put fake eyelashes on, and re-apply my red lipstick every five minutes. Not to mention go sunbathe in one of the one-piece swimsuits along the coast of southern France.

Only an hour and a half left of class.

Here are my favorite looks (all featuring shades of bright red; I can’t get enough of it this season):

He keeps it just as fun for the guys:
